These photos show Duffy at about 10 years of age and illustrates his great affection for cats. We moved to a small farm property (where we still live) when he was about 9. He was permitted to run loose there. Every evening he went out alone for his last trip and would bark when he was ready to come in. When we opened the door he would be sitting there with all the cats we 'owned' lined up between himself and the door. They all came in, one at a time, and settled in for the night.

There are no photos to show Duffy's greatest skills. He invented games. His vocabulary was extensive. He loved cows and would always look for them when we took car trips. If we told him there were cows, and we were not telling the truth, he would look and lie back down. If there really were cows he would watch them until they were out of sight.

Another great story of Duffy's thinking ability was the time we had company from my home town in New Jersey. We were in our first house that had a finished basement and we had a pool table. Being a normal Kerry he had a schedule. Every evening he was taken for a long walk instead of just being put out to 'do his business.' That evening the pool game was interfering with the scheduled walk. Someone hit the cue ball and it bounced and landed on the floor. Duffy had it in a flash and ran up the steps to the door. He would not release it until Dennis snapped on the lead and took him out side for his walk.
